2020 - This year's reading challenge comes from Modern Mrs. Darcy (check out her website for all things book). It's about QUALITY, not QUANTITY:
A book published the decade you were born
A debut novel
A book recommended by a source you trust
A book by a local author
A book outside your (genre) comfort zone
A book in translation
A book nominated for an award in 2020
A re-read
A classic you didn’t read in school
Three books by the same author
Those who know me know I will be listening to books as well as reading, but I'll be sure to keep you posted as to which is which!
2019 Reading Challenge
2019 - It's that time of year again--time to set a reading challenge for the upcoming year. This one comes compliments of my friend Jan, who revised it from the 2019 Kansas reading challenge:
1. A book with a face on the cover 2. A book from a genre you don’t normally read 3. A book that makes you actually laugh outloud 4. A book set in the place/state you were born 5. A classic or retelling of a well-known story - The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller 6. A book you’ve avoided or never finished 7. A book translated into your language 8. An award winner (Pulitzer, National Book Award, Newberry, etc.) 9. A book recommended by someone younger than you 10. A biography, autobiography or memoir 11. A book featuring a character who is different than you in some way (race, religion, abilities, etc.)
2018 Wrap-up - Well, the official tally today is . . . 65 books read or listened to in 2018! My goal for 2018 was to read more books in print, which I definitely did. And I also increased my reviews. But even though I read a ton, there were still things from the 2018 list that did not get read. Here are some of the books which did check my list:
A library book - The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
A detective novel or true crime book - The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling)
A book about reading or writing - 180 Days by Kelly Gallagher and Penny Kittle
A book set somewhere you’ve never been - Murder in an Irish Village by Carlene O'Connor
A book recommended, given, or loaned to you by a friend - Victoria by Daisy Goodwin
A book with an animal on the cover - Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
A graphic novel
An essay or short story collection
A book by an author of a different ethnicity than you - The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
A book about a topic in the news - Fire and Fury by Michael Wolff
A book published the year you were born
A book by an author from Wisconsin - Old World Murder by Kathleen Ernst
